Imagining a government that works for Canadians

Fundamental change means Canadians are partners in their own economy

The NDP-labour partnership isn’t accidental. It’s not just an electoral alliance. Social democracy has always been about shifting power from lobbyist interests to the people. Not just to win elections — but to bring our economy under control.

I’ve written about this in my columns before. Many times. We need to shift power to movements. We need to shift power to cities and towns. And we need to shift power to working people. That’s the point of social democracy.

And that’s why our party’s relationship with the labour movement needs to be nurtured and carefully supported. Which is the work I’ve done my entire political life.
